Tank and Silo Design and Fabrication Built to Perform

Project Overview

Tank and silo design sits at the core of what we do. At Longveld, we design and fabricate tanks and silos that support critical processes across Aotearoa New Zealand’s dairy, food, beverage, and water sectors.

We deliver stainless steel tank fabrication projects of all sizes and complexities. From 1m3 balance tanks to 100m3 silos, our work keeps production moving safely and reliably. Every vessel is shaped by careful engineering, skilled fabrication, and close collaboration with our customers and project partners.

Built for Scale and Complexity

Our tank and silo fabrication capability covers a range of vessels in industries that all have unique requirements. These structures push the limits of transport, lifting, and on-site installation — and demand disciplined planning at every stage.

We design and manufacture:

  • Storage and balance tanks
  • Processing and mixing tanks
  • CIP (Clean-in-Place) chemical handling tanks
  • Chilled water and product silos
  • UF retentate tanks, pasteurised cream silos, rinse recovery tanks, and bespoke vessels

Our tanks and silos are built for long service life and consistent performance.

Engineering-Led Tank and Silo Design

Effective tank design starts well before fabrication. Our engineers work alongside customers to understand product behaviour, process requirements, and site constraints. This early collaboration ensures each vessel performs safely under real operating conditions.

Key design considerations include:

Product behaviour and loading

Liquids and materials respond differently to pressure, temperature, and movement. Our silo and tank designs account for:

  • Positive and negative pressure
  • Vacuum conditions
  • Seismic and wind loading

Material selection and reinforcement

We specify appropriate stainless steel grades, wall thicknesses, and reinforcement rings to suit pressure, temperature, and chemical exposure. This approach ensures durability, safety, and compliance.

Mechanical and structural integrity

All tank and silo designs are developed in line with relevant recognised standards, such as ISO3834. This gives customers confidence that every vessel meets regulatory and operational requirements.

Precision Tank and Silo Fabrication

Our fabrication teams bring tank and silo designs to life with precision and care. From sheet rolling through to final weld inspection, quality is built into every stage.

Our tank fabrication work commonly includes:

  • Complex cone and knuckle geometries
  • Rolled and bent plate assemblies
  • Dimple jackets and insulation systems
  • Custom vents, overflows, nozzles, and manways

Each detail is fabricated to suit the process, the site, and the long-term demands of operation.

Installation Done Right

Installing large tanks and silos requires careful coordination and clear procedures. Our installation planning covers:

  • Transport and arrival inspections
  • Plinth preparation and core drilling
  • Anchoring, grouting, and final alignment
  • Health and safety compliance on site

We work closely with crane operators, transport providers, inspectors, and site teams to ensure every tank or silo is installed safely and correctly — first time.

Integrated Systems and Process Support

Many of our tanks and silos form part of larger processing systems. We design vessels that integrate seamlessly with:

  • Pneumatic transfer systems
  • CIP infrastructure
  • Heating, cooling, and mixing processes
  • Automated production lines

By working closely with customers and engineering partners, we deliver robust, practical solutions that support efficient operation and future expansion.
